How was your birthday, or shall I ask, how was your birthday weekend? I hope that it was all that you’d hoped it would be and more!
Birthdays seem to impact people in different ways. Some people are thrilled and other people are not so thrilled. Why is that? I wish I could tell you the answer. Perhaps children look forward to their birthdays because they anticipate receiving lots of presents. Young adults may look forward to celebrating their birthday by having a big birthday bash. Older people may look at their birthdays in any number of ways. They could celebrate another year of being blessed with life or they could think of their birthday as being closer to death.
I many ways, birthdays can be similar to bringing in the New Year. They are an opportunity to reset and reassess and create plans to make this year better than the last year. Sometimes that reassessment can be disheartening if we don’t feel that we’ve reached the milestones or goals we think we should have. Some may think they should have been married by now or be wealthy by now or have made some other achievement they had their heart set on. Whatever goals we may have, our birthday is a great time to reassess, create a plan of action, and take massive action to achieve our goals.
Personally, as I grow older, I look forward to each birthday as each one is a blessing from God. Each one gives us an opportunity to be the best we can be for ourselves and others as well.
