My Letters To My Son

Letters

Buongiorno Son

May 25, 2026 By Dad

Buongiorno Son,

I hope that your day is going well and that whatever is going on in your life, that you are able to find those precious moments of peace.

I had another quote that I wanted to share with you and I’d love to know what you think about it.

“It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.” –
Andre Gide

Wow! That’s a heavy quote, right? How many of us try to cover up who we really are?
I mean, how many people do you know that will admit that they are untruthful or untrustworthy?

The quote calls us to be authentic and not fake. This can be a huge challenge for those with lower self-esteem. Why? Because in reality nobody wants to be seen or judged in a negative light. Quite naturally, being seen in a negative light further erodes one’s self-esteem. This is logical as no one who is already not feeling great about themselves, or their life wants to feel worse.

Being your authentic self means you don’t have to remember all the things you’ve told people to cover up who you really are. Being your authentic self also encourages self-correction. It also encourages correction from those who care about you. Those closest to you may see an issue with your personality and respond by pulling you aside and calling your attention to it.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
