Buenos Días Son,
Well, here we are at yet another amazing start of the week!
I hope that your weekend was great and that you are refreshed and ready for a successful week ahead.
Things were super groovy here and I hope that they are there as well. Typically at this time of day I’m having a morning cup or two of coffee. Are you a coffee drinker? Speaking of having one or two cups a day, I used to have much more. In fact, I used to drink an entire pot of coffee! I also remember when I spoke with you after I had coffee that you might have noticed that I was a bit more energetic than usual. Well, rest assured, the next time we speak, I will be drinking less coffee, if at that time I happened to be drinking coffee at all.
This weekend I finally dove into a task that I did not look forward to. I knew it would take a long time and that it would be tedious. Of course, with unempowering thinking like that, how could it not be tedious? Fortunately, I decided that it was going to get done this weekend. I hadn’t really committed to doing the entirety of the task, but I had committed to at least getting started and making good progress.
Now, mind you, I had put this task off for quite some time, because as I said, I was not looking forward to it and felt that other things took priority at the time. Now here’s where it gets interesting. As I prepared to do the task, I undid something from a previous task that I had considered tedious. Now, in reality, if I had done that previous task more thoroughly, I would not have added to my workload by having to redo that task over again.
I didn’t have to do the entire task over again, but I do have to do one of the more time consuming portions of the task over again.
Needless to say, I was not too pleased with the thought of redoing a portion of a task that I had considered completed. After all, I had just barely started the task I had planned for the weekend and the fact that I had procrastinated doing a more thorough job on the previous task didn’t leave me in the best of moods. Fortunately, my sweetie was there with me and, as usual, was my voice of reason that got me through my negative feelings.
In the end, she worked with me and we did much more than we had anticipated doing and completed the job beautifully.
So you may ask, “Dad, what was the moral of the story”? If I had to state a moral for the story, it may simply be this: don’t procrastinate! When we put things off we may get the short-term pleasure of avoiding something that we considered tedious Or too time consuming. When that happens, we have just traded the short-term fix of procrastination for the long-term satisfaction of a job well done.
Well, that’s all for now!
Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!
Love,
Dad
