My Letters To My Son

Hello Son

June 26, 2023 By Dad

Hello Son,

I’m looking out the window as it gets a little bit lighter little by little. Sunrise here will be a little less than an hour from now. Just curious, what time do you usually get up? I wasn’t sure if you were an early riser or not.

A quick story:

I had person buy a piece of vintage video equipment from me. The ad I ran said, “Free Shipping”, but I already had added a shipping charge to the total. I had not noticed this until long after the person had received their package.

There are several ways this could have gone:

1. The person didn’t ever contact me regarding this oversight, and it really wasn’t that much money anyway, so just leave things as they are. The person will never realize that they paid more than they should have.

2. The equipment was advertised with “Free Shipping” and therefore there should not have been a shipping charge in the first place. I must contact the buyer and make things right.

Which of the 2 options above do you think that your Dad took? If you chose option # 2 you would be correct. I wrote the person a letter of apology for my oversight and sent them a refund for their overpayment with a little added money as a bonus.

When it comes to situations like this, it can be easy to say to ourselves, “Wow! This is free money and I’m ahead of the game. After all, who will know”. The fact is that we will know because we know the difference between right and wrong.

It doesn’t matter if such situations involve individuals or multi-billion-dollar corporations, the right thing to do is to keep your word. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
