My Letters To My Son

Buongiorno Son

September 11, 2023 By Dad

Buongiorno Son,

How’s it going on this fine day? I hope that this letter finds you in good health and spirits!

Do you have big plans for the week ahead? Well, the plans you have don’t have to be big as long as you have plans of some sort.

Some people who don’t have a plan seem to go through life and everything, at least on the surface, seems okay. Personally, I’ve tried that method and it can work to a certain degree. Like anything else, it depends on what you want out of your life and that will determine how much planning will be necessary in order for things to go as smoothly as possible.

There is a reality that some will mention when it comes to planning. The reality is, that no matter how much you plan and how perfectly you execute your plan, sometimes things will not go as planned. Now, on the surface, that may look relatively disheartening. After all, who wants to go through the planning phase only to not have things turn out perfectly?

In life, at least that I have found, even the perfect execution of a perfect plan can still result in an imperfect outcome. Fortunately, an imperfect outcome might be something that is absolutely amazing. We have to keep in mind that we don’t have to be perfect to be amazing and also, our plans don’t have to be perfect to be amazing and lead to amazing outcomes.

Of course, there will be naysayers who will say, “If I plan and things don’t turn out perfectly, why plan at all?” The answer, of course, is simple. Even an imperfect plan, with imperfect execution, that yields an imperfect result, we’ll have a result that is far superior to the result from having no plan at all.

How much we need to plan to accomplish a goal depends on the size and complexity of the goal. For instance, if I am heading out to play tennis with friends there are only a few things I have to remember. I basically only need to remember the location of the tennis court, to dress properly, and to bring my tennis racket and tennis balls. Pretty simple right? If, on the other hand, I want to create that organization that will eliminate world hunger, then the plan will be very intentional and necessarily very detailed and complex.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
