Howdy Son,
Well, here we are at the start of another amazing week ahead!
I know this may seem like a silly question, but do you ever get bummed out or just feel plain depressed? I would say that at some stage, everyone has those feelings.
Almost everyone I know believes that I never feel down or unempowered. I can tell you that without a doubt it is not true. I’ve felt sad, bummed, depressed, and basically the entire range of non-positive emotions. I say nonpositive rather than negative because sometimes something like sadness can be completely natural. For instance, when a loved one dies, it is natural to be sad.
It’s easy for any of us to experience a range of unempowering emotions for any number of reasons. Let’s explore a few today.
Unmet Expectations: If you are expecting something to happen, and it doesn’t happen, that can lead to disappointment. Depending on the magnitude of the expectation, that disappointment can lead to you feeling down and in more extreme cases depressed.
Here’s a saying I found that was interesting:
“He who does not expect is never disappointed” – Harlem Proverb
It’s interesting, but that proverb is probably true. In reality though, how realistic is it for someone to never expect anything? In a way, isn’t giving up on expectations a way of giving up on hope?
Let’s dive into this deeper in another letter at a later time.
Well, that’s all for now!
Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!
Love,
Dad
