My Letters To My Son

Howdy Son

December 16, 2024 By Dad

Howdy Son,

I hope that your day is going well and that you are ready for the week ahead.

I already feel great about today. I told myself while waking up that I would focus on having a great day rather than regretting the fact that I needed to get up early. That attitude made all the difference. I am absolutely ready for the day ahead.

Sometimes when you start your day it’s easy to get overwhelmed while thinking of everything you want to accomplish. For me, I decided to understand the scope of today’s task, but focus on one at a time. Narrowing your focus can greatly reduce any stress or anxiety you may have when you feel overwhelmed by the tasks at hand.

The next task I’ve selected is to start my workout for the day. Even though there are times when I’m not super-enthusiastic about working out, I always feel better after my workouts. When I focus on the goal of completing my workout rather than dreading it, the workouts are much more enjoyable. As previously mentioned, focusing on the goal rather than the obstacle is one of the keys to making real progress.

In the past, I thought I could get more done by multitasking. I thought I could reduce my feeling of overwhelm by tackling numerous tasks simultaneously. Unfortunately, it appears that multitasking is a myth. When you attempt to multitask, you dilute the momentum and effectiveness of each task by jumping from one to the other. If you start on task 1 and then move on to task 2, you effectively lose some of your task 1 momentum. When you move from task 2 to task 3, you lose some of your task 2 momentum. At this point, you are not only losing momentum on task 2, but on task 1 as well.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
