My Letters To My Son

Good Morning Son

May 18, 2026 By Dad

Good Morning Son,

This has already started off to be a great week! I hope your week is starting off great too!

Remember when we were discussing what you would do if you discovered that someone close to you had not been truthful about a certain subject for most of your life? Well, I have the answer. You forgive them!

Forgiving someone who has wronged you is probably one of the hardest things you will ever do. Some would say it’s natural to harbor resentment towards that person and I wouldn’t disagree. Being unforgiving and harboring resentment can be defense mechanisms. What do I mean by that? Well, when your discover that someone has been feeding you false information for the better part of your life, it is naturally painful. After all, none of us look forward to having their trust violated. You are trying to protect yourself from future undeserved pain this person may cause.

So you might ask yourself, what does it mean to forgive someone. Well, I’m certainly no expert, but I am to understand that it means wiping the slate clean. It is like resetting your relationship with that person.

Does forgiving mean that you forget the wrongs done to you? Not necessarily. Let’s take a look at an example. Say you just happen to leave a $100 on your kitchen table. You invite a friend over to watch a TV show. When all is said and done, after your friend leaves you notice that the $100 is no longer on your kitchen table. At this point you are absolutely sure that your friend took the money.

What are your choices here? You can confront your friend about it, or you cannot confront your friend about it. Either way, if you decide to forgive them, the next time they visit don’t leave any money in plain sight. In this way you have forgiven your friend, but you did not forget what they did.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
