My Letters To My Son

Buenos Días Son

September 28, 2026 By Dad

Buenos Días Son,

How are things going there today? As always, I hope that you are having an amazing day and looking forward to an amazing week!

I spent the weekend helping a relative move. Let me tell you, the older you get, the more stuff you accumulate. When it comes time to move, many people dread it because they see the years of accumulation. We all also realize that moving can be a monumental task.

I clearly remember the last time I moved. I decided to pack everything up and label each and every box. Believe me, this type of preparation took quite some time. In fact, it took me 7 days of carefully packing and labelling everything in the house!

Now, here’s something that I didn’t anticipate. I thought that after packing on the first day that I would see some progress. Well, I didn’t see any progress. The house looked the same! Then I thought, “Surely I will see some progress on the second day.” No such luck. Believe me that was discouraging to say the least.

On the third day, finally, I was able to see that I had made some progress. Thank God for that!

After seven full days I was done and had packed up everything in the house, with each of the plastic storage containers neatly labelled and stacked.

After that, loading the containers on the truck was a breeze and unloading them once I reached my destination was also a breeze.

I reflect on this because there will be times in our lives when we are working toward a goal but we are not seeing the progress that we may have anticipated. For instance, I could have given up after one or two days (although that wouldn’t have made much sense as I needed to move). If I had given up after two days, I would have been delaying the inevitable. It has been said that breakthroughs are sitting right there on the other side of the point at which you want to throw in the towel.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
