My Letters To My Son

How Are You Today Son

February 22, 2021 By Dad

How Are You Today Son,

Well, we finally got some lower temperatures and a lot more snow than anticipated. Personally, I was very happy to see that as I absolutely love wintertime!

I underestimated the amount of snow that we were going to get. The other day I went out and shoveled the driveway. It was very easy as the snow was light and powdery and not very deep. 20 minutes later I looked out the window and the driveway was completely covered with snow again.

I wasn’t irritated that I underestimated the amount of snow that we were going to get and that I knew I was going to have to shovel the driveway again. In reality, so many things in life are just like that. You anticipate completing the task on the first try, but it doesn’t always work out that way, does it?

It can be disappointing to not complete the task on the first try. This is because we set our expectation level that we can get something done in a particular period of time. Sometimes our expectations are unrealistic and based upon things such as the amount of time we have available to complete the task. It’s just a fact of life that some tasks take longer to complete then we originally anticipated.

There are other times when we want to complete a task that we have put off for some time, and we, “just want to get it done as quickly as possible”. Typically, we may dive into this type of task without much planning or preparation. Without planning, we may not have the proper skills, tools, or materials to complete the job.

Maybe if we adopted a different attitude, we would be better at completing the tasks set before us. I wish I was an expert in this area, but unfortunately I’m not. I do, however from time to time muster up the discipline to focus on doing an exceptional job, rather than just hurrying to get the job done. This has always helped me to remove my focus from just completing the task and devote myself to doing an outstanding job regardless of how long it might take.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
