My Letters To My Son

Buenos Días Son

March 15, 2021 By Dad

Buenos Días Son,

Good morning! I hope that all as well with you and that you’re having a wonderful start to a wonderful week.

Things are good here and as far as I can see they’re only going to get better and better and better.

I had an interesting conversation with someone the other day. We were speaking about diet. This particular person was of the mindset that if they were to diet and lose weight or to be healthy, in general, that they would be missing out on something.

Now I’m not going to say that this is an unfamiliar concept. Anything that you typically don’t eat that might be one of your favorite foods, you could be telling yourself that you’re missing out. At one point, I really wasn’t sure what to say to this person as that particular mindset, if continually held, will simply mean that person will never embrace a healthy lifestyle. There is no doubt that many, many people who feel the exact same way. They feel that to eat in a healthy fashion is to give something up.
Viewing healthy eating as giving something up isn’t the most empowering way to look at it.

An alternative way that some people could look at this would be that it isn’t giving something up, it’s actually gaining greater radiant and vibrant health. Isn’t it logical that the long term benefit of radiant health is more important, and should take priority over the short term, pleasure of giving in to a craving?

There are many different scenarios in life that are very similar to this one. Things that we do in the short term affect the long term.

As I’m sure you already know, there is an obesity epidemic in the United States. Getting at the root cause of it has proven challenging, because there are many factors involved.
Some would blame the fast food industry, but in reality no one forces anyone else to eat fast food. We all make a choice, and whether we like it or not, we have to live with the consequences.

As the saying goes, “Everyone experiences two types of pain. Either the pain of discipline, or the pain of regret”.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
