My Letters To My Son

Bonjour Son

January 24, 2022 By Dad

Bonjour Son,

How are things with you today? Naturally, I hope they are great!

I saw an interesting quote the other day that I really connected with:

“Never put the keys to your happiness in someone else’s pocket”

I don’t know who wrote that quote. If I’m not mistaken, it was an anonymous, but important quote.

Why is this quote so significant? Well, one thing I have always said is that you can’t fix an inside problem with something from the outside. To me, if you don’t feel happy or fulfilled, that is an internal problem/challenge.

Now some say that they will be happy when:

They make a lot of money.
They find that someone special.
All their problems/challenges go away.

Some people find that you can make a lot of money and still be unhappy. Remember, a fortune can vanish in an instant. For those whose happiness is tied to their money, when the money is gone, so is their happiness.

Those that find that special someone need to realize that, that special someone is mortal and will not live forever. Where will their happiness be then? In this situation, we can tie our happiness to the love we feel for someone. The love we feel for someone is something that is internal. The only persona that can take the love we feel for someone from us, is, well us!

It is unlikely that all of life’s problems/challenges will go away. …So, if someone believes that happiness means never having problems/challenges, then they have set themselves up to never be happy.

So, with that said, keep the keys to your happiness in your own pocket!

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
