My Letters To My Son

Bonjour Son

November 6, 2023 By Dad

Bonjour Son,

Hello there! How are you today? I know I’m going to sound like a broken record by saying that I hope that all is well and that you’re having an amazing day!

I was recently reading a book that had a lot of content about longevity. I would think that most everyone I’ve ever met would like to live as long as possible. There is one exception, however, and this person actually told me that, “life is too long”. I found that response to be quite surprising, actually.

I heard an interesting quote and, I’m paraphrasing here, so here it is:

“I’m more interested in adding life to my days than days to my life”

What do you think of that quote? If we stop and think about it, what really is the point of living a long time, even though that’s what most people would like to do? I suppose we have to stop and think about the fact that living is not exactly the same as being alive. We could put it another way and save it simply existing is not the same as living.

Let’s explore this further. How much different would our life be if we knew that it would be over in one month? I believe that most people who are truthful would admit that they would live their lives differently. Some people would spend all the money they have in the bank and live as extravagantly as they could. Others might dedicate their remaining months on Earth to a life dedicated to service.

If we stop and think about the point of all this, we have to realize that none of us knows when we are going to die. The reality is that it could be one month from now as in the example above. Does that mean we should think about how we are living our lives and start doing things differently now? I wouldn’t necessarily say that everyone would start doing things differently. I would say that we should look at each day as a gift and a blessing and embrace every opportunity we have to make this day count.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
