My Letters To My Son

Happy Magnificent Monday Son

December 2, 2024 By Dad

Happy Magnificent Monday Son,

Another wonderful Monday is finally here! Hope your weekend was great.

I’m sitting in the office having a cup of green tea and thoroughly enjoying it. After I finish the tea, I will have a cup of coffee.

I used to brew my coffee in the typical fashion and then switched to a Keurig. After a while, I realized that neither of these options was yielding the kind of rich-tasting coffee I desired. Then I changed from buying ground coffee to buying whole coffee beans and grinding them myself. I also bought a pour-over coffee maker.

I’ve been told that the way that I prepare my coffee, “looks like too much trouble” or “is too much trouble.” I stopped and thought about it, and it was true that my process was more involved than using the simpler, more traditional methods.

Even though the method involved more steps and thusly more time, it yielded the results I wanted. I realized that even though others questioned why I would, “go through all that trouble just for a cup of coffee,” that it was worth it to me.

Besides getting a great cup of coffee, I realized that there was an important lesson to be learned. You are more likely to get what you want or accomplish what you want to accomplish if your focus is on the outcome rather than the obstacle. I focused on creating and enjoying a superior cup of coffee rather than the “obstacle” of the time it took and the number of steps involved.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
