My Letters To My Son

Happy Magnificent Monday Son

October 2, 2023 By Dad

Happy Magnificent Monday Son,

Well, another weekend has come and gone. Here we are at the start of another great week ahead!

You have probably heard the phrase, “Live with an attitude of gratitude”. That’s an easy thing to say, but not always an easy thing to do.

Merriam-Webster defines gratitude as, “the state of being grateful” and defines grateful as, “appreciative of benefits received”.

Sometimes it can be difficult to focus on what we have. It sometimes seems easier to focus on what we don’t have. That’s pretty easy to do, especially if we fall into the pointless trap of comparing ourselves to others. It’s easy for us to see a friend driving a much nicer car than ours and ask ourselves, “why don’t I have a car like that” or “what am I doing wrong that I can’t afford such a nice vehicle”.

Once we start the comparison process, it’s easy to start to feel inadequate, even though we usually don’t want to admit that’s how we are feeling.

The one thing we don’t want to do in this situation is to try to, “keep up with the Joneses”. Basically, that means that you are trying to keep up with a friend, family member, or neighbor by getting what they have or getting something better than they have.

Keeping up with the Joneses can be a recipe for financial disaster, especially if you don’t have the same financial means as the Joneses!

Let’s chat more on this topic later and dive a little deeper into cultivating an attitude of gratitude.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
