My Letters To My Son

Happy Marvelous Monday Son

October 3, 2022 By Dad

Happy Marvelous Monday Son,

Well, here we are at the start of another amazing week! How are things there with you today? I hope that you are excited about the week ahead as I am!

Here are a few things I wanted us to discuss that are important for all of us:

Keep your word. This is one of the most important things that any of us can do. If you say you are going to do something, then walk the talk and do exactly what you say you will do and do it.

Be on time. This is definitely important. As I’m sure you know, there are people who prefer to be “fashionably late”, whatever that means. When you tell someone, you will be at a certain place at a certain time, be there at that predetermined time. This falls under the category of keeping your word.

Why is it so important to keep your word? Let’s start by asking ourselves a question: How do we feel when someone tells us they are going to do something and then doesn’t do it? Do we feel overjoyed or thrilled? No, we typically feel disappointed. In this case, our disappointment is the result of an expectation not being met. Our expectation was that the person was going to keep their word. The result is that they didn’t keep their word. Basically, they let us down.

So what if a person seems to make a habit of not keeping their word? At a certain point, we would see that person as unreliable or untrustworthy or undependable. It is our job to realize this is happening and not depend on that person in the future. Depending on an undependable person is a recipe for disaster.

So how could depending on an undependable person be a recipe for disaster? Let’s look at a simple example. Suppose you were given a task to complete. You promised that the task would be completed at a certain time in the future. Let’s also suppose that you enlisted the aid of someone to assist you with the task as it was quite involved. Now let’s say that the person you chose to assist you never shows up or was always very late and didn’t do their part.

You are now left with a task that you can’t possibly finish at the agreed-upon time. You then have to report to the person who assigned the task that it will not be completed as promised. What just happened? By depending on a person who didn’t keep their word, you just became an undependable person. That is the reality of depending on people who don’t keep their word.

Be a person who keeps their word and be a person of integrity. This will make you a trustworthy person and trust is a supremely valuable asset.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
