My Letters To My Son

Hi Son

August 14, 2023 By Dad

Hi Son,

How’s it going there today? What are you planning to do to make a today a great day?

Things are groovy here. I’m sitting in my office munching on some green grapes. I pretty much always eat fruit in the morning. I typically don’t want anything heavy as it seems to slow me down a bit.

Interestingly enough, when I used to be into distance running, I would load up on as much food as I could before my run. That worked very well for me. Other people that I ran with told me that they had never eaten before a run. I guess that worked for them.

Have you ever done any endurance training? I ask because of the positive effect endurance training has had on me. A lot of people see such training as only physical, but it is much more than that. The influence it can have on your mental well-being is tremendous.

When I first started I could hardly run around a 440-yard track without getting winded. I have to admit that particular experience was discouraging. Fortunately, I stuck with it and went on to run greater and greater distances. The key for me was harnessing the limitless power of incremental change. You may be familiar with the following quote:

“Mile by mile it’s a trial, yard by yard it’s hard, but inch by inch, it’s a cinch.”

Approaching goals with an “inch-by-inch” mindset works well for most anything, not just endurance training. It is especially effective when you want to learn something new.

Let’s chat about these things more in the future.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
