My Letters To My Son

Howdy Son

October 18, 2021 By Dad

Howdy Son,

Wow! What amazing weather we had this weekend! This is the best weather I’ve seen in this part of the country in some time. It was a great weekend for just hanging out in the sunshine and enjoying life. Needless to say, it was a great weekend.

How was your weekend? I hope that it was enjoyable and that the week ahead will be enjoyable as well!

Mondays are always exciting for me as Mondays are my favorite day of the week, or should I say, the work week. Just as setting the tone for the day is important, setting the tone for the week is important as well. Monday didn’t just magically become my favorite weekday, making it my favorite weekday was an intentional and conscious decision.

Although making Monday my favorite weekday was a conscious decision, it would be considered by some to be a counterintuitive one. Why? Because people typically dread Mondays. I can certainly understand that, because when Monday comes around, that means the weekend is gone. The feeling towards Mondays is basically the opposite of the feeling people have for Friday. For many, Friday signals the end of the work week and the beginning of the weekend, “freedom and flexibility”.

For me, Mondays are amazing days because I choose Mondays to be amazing days. In reality, I enjoy every day of the week. Much of that has to do with the fact that I love what I do. As the saying goes, “if you love what you do for a living, you will never work a day in your life”. That saying really makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

I have to admit that I understand dreading Monday mornings because, in the past, I have been involved with making a living doing things that I didn’t necessarily enjoy. Also, when I made a living doing work that I enjoyed, there were sometimes office politics and other nonsense which made the workplace almost unbearable.

Making a living just to get a paycheck is a way of life for many people. It is certainly understandable that some people would dread the start of the work week. It also makes sense that people who make a living doing things they are not passionate about really, really look forward to retirement. After all, why would anyone want to keep working in a career they don’t enjoy.

After all is said and done, finding or creating a career that you are passionate about is one of the most important life choices you can make.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
