My Letters To My Son

Dad

Happy Monday Son

December 4, 2023 By Dad

Happy Monday Son,

How’s it going on this fine day? I called and left a message with your uncle to relay my birthday wishes for you. Naturally, I would have called you directly, but it seems that the number I have for you and your mom is no longer active, so currently your uncle is my only contact point. In any event, I hope that you had a great birthday and that it was even better than anything you could have anticipated.

I’ve always liked birthdays, but for some reason some people get bummed out by their birthday. Perhaps it’s because they realize that they’re older, but to me getting older is a cause for celebration. I suppose everyone’s perspective is different.

Now I can certainly understand that getting older could bring about negative feelings for people who happen to be in bad health. Dealing with bad health on a daily basis is certainly nothing that anyone looks forward to.

Another reason people may dread each coming birthday is that they realized with each passing birthday that they are getting closer to death. The way I see it, death is inevitable and in the human population it happens to have a 100% success rate.

Since death is an absolute certainty for every human being, that means it’s something that does not change. Worrying about those things we cannot change can be very, very frustrating. How much better would life be for us if we focused all those things that we could change and took action towards changing them?

We could focus on how we’re going to live rather than focusing on how we’re going to die. I’m paraphrasing a quote I heard that goes something like this, “Don’t focus on the days in your life, rather, focus on the life in your days.” That quote speaks volumes about an excellent way to view the life we have been blessed with.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
