My Letters To My Son

Dad

How Are You Today Son

October 9, 2023 By Dad

How Are You Today Son,

Hey there. What’s new in your world on this fine day? As always, I hope that all is well and that you’re looking forward to a fabulous day and a great week ahead!

How have you been? How is your outlook on the future, not just the rest of the day or the rest of the week, but the rest of your life? Certainly, I hope that your outlook is bright because it’s important to always have something to look forward to.

Something to look forward to is so very important that I try to have something to look forward to the next day before I go to bed every single night. You see, I don’t want to feel like I have to drag myself out of bed because I’m dreading the day’s activities ahead.

Does that mean I’m jumping up and down about everything I have to do when I get up in the morning? The short answer is no. There are some things that happen during the day that may be extremely challenging for one reason or the other. Some days I find myself completely up for the challenge and other days, not so much. So, what do we do on those days when we have difficult tasks to do that we don’t necessarily look forward to?

When you wake up in the morning, and you know you have some difficult tasks ahead of you, you can simply change how you view those tasks and focus more on how pleased you’re going to be because of the outcome rather than the difficulty or tediousness of the task itself. Let’s say, for instance, if you’re a person who works out, and you wake up on a workout day knowing that an hour from waking up you’ll be working out. There are a couple of different things you can think about. You can think about the fact that you know for certain that your workouts are doing you so much good that you absolutely, positively want to continue them and won’t stop regardless of how you feel. You could also reward yourself with a treat of some type after the workout like your favorite smoothie or even your favorite meal.

The key to all of this is to have something positive to look forward to even though you may have a number of tasks that you are not absolutely thrilled about. You can also fill parts of your day with tasks or activities that you absolutely do look forward to. Let’s say, for instance, that you know you’re going out to have a great lunch with a group of people, and you know you’re going to have a great time. With that in mind, you can focus on your difficult tasks before lunchtime and then have all of that behind you as you go out and have a great lunch with friends, family, and/or acquaintances.

The key and this is to always have something to look forward to so that you can feel that you have made progress for that particular day.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
