My Letters To My Son

Dad

Bonjour Son

How was your weekend? I trust it was great!

What do you think about the quote, “Life is a marathon, not a sprint”? The general consensus of the quote’s meaning is, that, in life, we should pace ourselves accordingly. It could also mean that, as life is a marathon, life is not always easy and there is not always a quick fix to every challenge.

Merriam-Webster defines a race as, “A competition between people, animals, vehicles, etc., to determine which one is the fastest : a contest of speed”.

I don’t always like to think of life as a race. We all heard life referred to as the “rat race”. Merriam-Webster defines “rat race” as, “strenuous, wearisome, and usually competitive activity or rush”. Is this the way we want to live our lives? Even if you win the rat race, you are still a rat! Personally, winning the rat race and being a rat doesn’t really inspire me.

So how do we describe life then? Is life more or a race or a journey? Perhaps it’s a bit of both. Personally, I like to view life as a journey filled with adventure and discovery and also with the inevitable challenges that we all must face.

The reality is that there will be challenges in even the most amazing life. If we focus only on the challenges, life will appear to be a long and arduous journey. The key is to find joy in the journey each and every day! What will you do to find joy in your journey today and what will you do to share that joy with others?

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
