My Letters To My Son

Dad

Good Morning Son

Good Morning Son,

How are you enjoying the New Year so far? It’s pretty amazing isn’t it?!

I hope that you realize that you are never alone. It’s pretty easy when challenges come into your life to feel like you’re the only person going through those particular challenges.

Sometimes we may feel alone and feel as if the weight of the world is on our shoulders. What makes this particularly tough is that we may also feel that no one understands what we’re going through. The interesting thing about that is we really shouldn’t expect others to know what we’re going through unless we have communicated our true feelings to them.

We may be feeling alone because we choose to shelter ourselves in our fortress of solitude. By doing this, we also shield ourselves from the sagely advice and solutions of others who may have gone through or are going through exactly what we are experiencing.

With all that said, I have to admit to you that I have had big challenges sharing what I was going through with others. I’ve typically been a very private person. We may not share what we’re going through with others for any number of reasons. One might be embarrassment. Another might be pride. We may be dealing with something that is very personal or we may have just done something really stupid and feel uncomfortable admitting that to anyone else. Typically, none of us really wants to be judged and have someone tell us, “I told you so!”.

In the end, much of that feeling of being alone is a result of our choice of choosing not to disclose the details of our circumstances or situations. Remember, you are never really alone unless you choose to be!

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
