My Letters To My Son

Dad

Good Morning Son

Good Morning Son,

How was your weekend? I hope that it was wonderful and that you had a great time!

I just took it easy this past weekend and both relaxed and got some things done.

One reason I took it easy was because I have some back pain. This has happened to me from time to time, usually about once a year I get a twinge in my lower back. Oddly enough, it isn’t really from lifting things that are heavy, although sometimes it is. It seems that most of the time I slept in the wrong position or sat in the wrong position without having good posture.

It’s interesting how when you’re growing up parents are always telling you to be careful and not do anything dangerous. For me, most of the injuries that I’ve experienced were not from doing anything dangerous, but from just going about my day in the normal fashion.

I thought about why I didn’t get injured when I was doing something more daring, such as descending downhill on my bike at 55 miles an hour. I can’t exactly say why, but I suspect that the last time I was descending a steep hill going 55 miles an hour, I was completely “in the moment”. In other words, I was paying full attention to the road in front of me, as was well my breaking procedures, my position on the bike, etc. Mostly, I understood the consequences of not paying attention while traveling at such a high speed.

One of the most painful accidents that I had happened while walking to class when in college. I ended up pinching a nerve and being in absolutely excruciating pain.

The lesson I’ve learned after years of doing these types of things, is to try to give everything I do my full and undivided attention, regardless of how many times I’ve done it before.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
