Bonjour Son,
Here were are on Monday morning with another great week ahead of us. Some Sunday nights I find myself so excited about the week ahead that I find myself anxiously anticipating getting started on Monday morning. Do you ever feel that way?
OK, so you know how much your Dad loves the outdoors. This weekend I decided to find a more remote place to hike. I found a place far from home and it was well worth the drive. The location was rocky and rugged with very steep and challenging terrain. This is exactly where I wanted to be!
As it turns out, I got lost during my hike. This was not the first time I had been lost, but getting lost is very, very rare for me. I also wasn’t prepared in other ways. I had not eaten anything that day and I didn’t have any water with me. Fortunately, it was a cool day, so I did not get dehydrated.
Once I realized that I was lost I looked around to see if I could see any familiar landmarks. All I saw were trees, hills, and rocks and more trees, more hills, and more rocks. This brought to mind the movies I’d seen where people were lost in the woods. They had the same experience that I did because everywhere they looked everything looked the same.
I didn’t panic as I knew I wasn’t more than a two hour walk from the car. At that point I took a deep breath and decided to hike in one direction and enjoy the hike even though I was lost.
I did make it back to the car within an hour and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of my hike. What started out as a simple hike turned into a bit more of an adventure than I had anticipated. There is no real moral to the story, it was just something that I wanted to share with you. Obviously, it would have been smarter to be better prepared and that is exactly what I’ll do next time!
Well, that’s all for now!
Have an amazing day!
Love,
Dad
