Buongiorno Son,
How was your weekend? I know I ask about weekends a lot because they are always an opportunity to do things that we may not have had an opportunity to do during the regular week. One great thing to do, of course, is rest and relaxation. I’m not saying that rest and relaxation is a form of laziness or anything like that. We should rest in order to recharge our engines, so to speak. Also rest gives the body as well as the mind and opportunity to put things in perspective. If we continually rush from one task to another, we are task hopping essentially and eventually we will feel and claim to be tired and burned out.
So, I’m saying all that to say that I have found that taking the time out to just, “decompress”, has been a valuable way of preserving my sanity over the years.
Many people would think that rest and relaxation are a waste of time and would prefer to forge ahead and make as much progress as possible. Personally, I have found those times when forging ahead and jumping from task to task has caused me to lose focus. I don’t know about everyone else, but when I lose focus, I lose efficiency and when I lose efficiency, I spend a lot more time completing a task than is absolutely necessary. So, in essence, by not resting and giving myself an opportunity to gain perspective on my goals and the tasks involved in those goals, I essentially rob myself of time. That is the time that I would waste by not being rested and ready to dive into a task with passion, enthusiasm, and focus.
I will have to admit to you though, that I do still feel guilty when I rest sometimes. Sometimes I simply feel that I could be getting something done rather than resting. In reality, by resting I actually am getting something done and I have to remind myself of that. By resting and rejuvenating, we are giving ourselves the opportunity to pursue our goals with the energy and passion necessary to make them a reality.
Well, that’s all for now!
Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!
Love,
Dad
