My Letters To My Son

Letters

Hello Son

October 4, 2021 By Dad

Hello Son,

How’s it going there today? I hope that all is well and that you are ready for a wonderful week ahead!

As your father who loves you dearly, I hope that you are leading a happy life. Merriam-Webster defines the word, “happy”, as:

1 — feeling pleasure and enjoyment because of your life, situation, etc.
2 — showing or causing feelings of pleasure and enjoyment.
3 — pleased or glad about a particular situation, event, etc.

Some synonyms for happy include the following:

cheerful.
contented.
delighted.
ecstatic.
elated.
joyous.
overjoyed.
pleased.

Do any or all of those words accurately describe how you feel about your life? I certainly hope so!

There are a few things I’d like to share with you about leading a happy life:

1 — A happy life is not without challenges, issues, problems, disappointments, pain, grief, etc.

2 — Happiness is a choice. There are those who choose to make their happiness conditional. I have a friend who says he will be happy when he’s rich. What he was actually describing was wealth, not happiness. Why put off happiness until tomorrow when you can have happiness today!

3 — Base the core of your happiness on that which can not be taken away from you, something internal. Why? Because external things in life can come and go. With that said, I understand the very important role that relationships play in our overall happiness. That is why it is important to choose your relationships wisely. Some relationships will bring you joy and other relationships will bring you pain. Nurture the relationships that bring you joy and let the relationships that bring you pain wither and die. On this I speak from personal experience. I had a long-term relationship with someone I considered to be a good friend end rather abruptly. My former friend chose to end our relationship. That was fine with me because he became abusive, and of course, that is unacceptable.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
