My Letters To My Son

Letters

Hi Son

June 14, 2021 By Dad

Hi Son,

I already know that you are having a wonderful day, so I don’t even have to ask you how things are going today!

By the way, I have another quote that I wanted to share with you:

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

Although the quote above has been claimed to be said by Albert Einstein, there is no actual proof to support that claim. It is an intriguing quote, nonetheless.

That quote really struck me as interesting. One reason that I find it interesting is based on personal experiences.

One of the personal experiences that I am referring to has to do with sports. When I was younger, many people though that I should pursue playing basketball since I was considered tall. Based on the feedback and encouragement I was receiving, I decided to give basketball a try.

Well, as it turns out I was a horrible basketball player. The result is I disappointed myself and those who thought I would be a great basketball player.

Interestingly enough, no one had even asked me if I liked basketball, let alone if I was passionate about it. More importantly, I don’t even think I had asked myself if I was interested in basketball. I was much more passionate about playing tennis and was blessed to be able to develop a high level of skill fueled by my passion for the game.

So, to those who watched me play basketball, I was “stupid”. To those who watched me play tennis, I was a “genius”.

Each of us has skills or talents that we are passionate about that will display our genius. Spending time to discover and nurture those skills and talents with discipline and focus is time well spent.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
