My Letters To My Son

Happy Monday Son

Happy Monday Son,

Well, here we are at the start of yet another amazing day and a great week ahead!

I’d like for us to chat a little bit more about the last topic of, “being right”. So let’s dive right in, shall we?

First and foremost, of course, we should always seek the truth, not seek to be right. After all, would it be ridiculous of us to think that we and we alone have all the answers? Yet, believe it or not, there are those people who absolutely insist on being right, even when they are frequently wrong.

I believe one of the reasons that people get into the habit of thinking they’re always right, is that they have a number of people who cater to them, regardless of whether they’re right or wrong. Say for instance, that there is an employee who gets a direct order from his boss that is clearly nonsensical. You and I would probably both be shocked at how frequently the employee we just mentioned, simply goes along with whatever the boss says. That is, completely logical, because, after all, the boss is the boss. That, of course, does not mean that the boss is always right. Why? Because the boss is a human being and no human being is perfect.

When you encounter somebody who is clearly wrong, the first thing to do is to make sure you have your facts straight before you attempt to help that person find the truth. Please keep in mind, that I’m not saying that we have to jump down people’s throats and correct them every time they make a mistake. After all, people can get pretty defensive when they feel challenged.

So what do we do about, “being right”. The first thing we do is to understand that we do not know nor will we ever know everything. Then we must reserve the right to be wrong and take responsibility for the errors of our ways. We must just keep in mind that what we need to seek is the truth rather than the need to be right.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
