My Letters To My Son

Dad

Happy Marvelous Monday Son

November 20, 2023 By Dad

Happy Marvelous Monday Son,

How’s it going there today? It’s a fabulous day here so far and I don’t expect that to change.

As we approach the end of this year, I hope that your year has gone well and has been better than you had hoped for. The new year is right around the corner, and as always, the new year holds incredible opportunities and promise!

Speaking of the new year, I remember hearing something about the statistics of how many people make New Year’s resolutions that they don’t keep. If we stop and think about it, that makes perfect sense. As we all know, making a statement about what you will do is always easier than following through on that statement and actually doing something.

In the above statement, that’s not to say that people who don’t follow through on their New Year’s resolutions are bad people or lazy people or anything else that might be negative. We have all not followed through and said we were going to do something that we didn’t do.

I suppose we have to think about the fact that making a statement, such as the New Year’s resolution, is different than actually having a plan to follow through on that particular statement. For instance, if someone says that they want to lose weight next year, that really doesn’t carry much weight. Why? Because the statement isn’t a plan. It makes sense that we would be more detailed with a compelling reason of why we want to lose weight. Having a compelling reason of why we want to achieve something makes it much easier to reach your goal.

In the above example about losing weight, the goal is way too nebulous. First, having a compelling reason such as wanting to lose weight because of health concerns is vitally important. Suppose that a person’s doctor has told them that they need to lose weight, then they need to take that advice seriously and create a plan to do exactly that. After all, if you think of all the assets you have in your life, isn’t your health at the top of that list?

I have found it once I have a compelling reason, I then need to formulate a plan to achieve the goal. The goal, of course, must be specific. Why? Because how can any of us expect to hit an invisible target? Not having a specific target derails so much of a person’s progress in life, but we have all fallen prey to neglecting the specifics far too many times.

Let’s chat more about this at a later date.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
