My Letters To My Son

Dad

Hello Son

November 7, 2022 By Dad

Hello Son,

I hope that you are doing well today. I also hope that you’re looking forward to another wonderful week ahead!

I was wondering what you do to relax. You know, what types of things do you do to just unwind and de-stress? Personally, I’m not anywhere near being great at relaxation. With that said, rest and relaxation are important. We should all have some way to, “recharge our batteries” so to speak. For me, I find such simple things as enjoying a good meal, going for a walk, going for a bike ride and lots of other things very relaxing.

Some would say the main point of getting some rest and relaxation is so that you can de-stress. From all that I’ve read and perhaps that you have read too, stress simply is not good for us.

What if, instead of trying to get rid of stress, we did things to avoid stress in the first place. I suppose we could all make a list of the things that stress us out and look for ways to eliminate or minimize those stress triggers. For some, having to rush and do things at the last minute is the way they prefer to get things done. For others, having to do things at the last minute and in a hurried and inefficient fashion can be extremely stressful.

What we just described in the previous paragraph can be termed as procrastination. Putting things off and then having to rush do them at the last minute doesn’t seem very logical, does it? If you stop and think about it, it makes sense that there is an underlying reason why people put things off. For instance, some people put off solving a problem by calling technical or customer support because they may anticipate long hold times on the phone. They may also dread wasting time with a customer support or tech support representative that isn’t very helpful at all. No one really wants to have their time wasted by contacting customer or tech support representatives previously stated. On the flip side of that, no one wants to have a problem, glitch, or issue that continues to be unresolved.

So, in the above scenario, we have two choices. We can contact support, or we cannot contact support. Here are two important questions with regard to that: Question one: What happens if we contact support? Question two: What happens if we allow the problem, glitch, or issue to remain unresolved?

If we contact support, there’s a chance that we will get our issue resolved. If you don’t contact support, and we are unfamiliar with the issue at hand, the issue will remain unresolved. The unresolved issue can potentially greatly impact our productivity or, on a grander scale, our quality of life.

The technical and customer support example is just one of many possibilities where someone may procrastinate. It could be said that if we can minimize or eliminate procrastination that we could also minimize or eliminate much of our stress.

One of the best ways to eliminate stress is to plan. Now planning in and of itself simply isn’t enough. Your plan must be executed for you to complete the task or project at hand.

Now, procrastination isn’t is not typically our only source of stress, but minimizing or eliminating it can certainly lead to a more stress-free, productive, and fulfilling life.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
