My Letters To My Son

Dad

Top Of The Morning To You Son

June 13, 2022 By Dad

Top Of The Morning To You Son,

What’s new with you? I’m sure that when we have an opportunity to speak on the phone or in person that you will have tons of great news to share!

As you know, I love to share really good, thought-provoking quotes with you. Here is one reflecting a concept that is positive and easy to put into practice:

“Pretend that every single person you meet has a sign around his or her neck that says, ‘Make me feel important.’ Not only will you succeed in sales, you will succeed in life.” -Mary Kay Ash”

Making someone feel important and valued can be as simple as smiling at them or simply saying, “Hello”. It really can be that simple.

When I am walking, riding, or biking on a trail, I like to greet those who are travelling in the opposite direction. When I first started doing this I wasn’t sure how a big smile and a friendly, “Hello” would be received. In fact, I initially found myself feeling a bit discouraged when my smile or greeting wasn’t reciprocated. After a while, I decided that someone’s lack of a reciprocal smile or greeting shouldn’t keep me from continuing to reach out to everyone. My objective was to let God’s love flow through me to lift people up. I know that at one time you said you had questions about God. My offer to discuss God with you is always open.

There are some days that the smiles that I get after greeting people are so bright and beautiful that I am in awe of how something so simple can mean so much. Some faces light up so brightly and eagerly and are so welcoming that you know you have made an impact, even if ever so small.

What I have noticed when greeting people on the trail is interesting. I find myself being the initiator of the greeting 99% of the time. That percentage speaks to me. My hope is that some of those people that I greet will become initiators and lift up others.

Lifting people up can take place anywhere… the grocery store, the mall, the doctor’s office, online, a coffee shop, etc. It is not important where you make someone feel important, it is simply essential that you put forth the effort and forethought to lift them up.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
