My Letters To My Son

Dad

Birthday Dessert

January 25, 2016 By Dad Leave a Comment

Hello Son,

Well, the weekend is over and it is time to get things accomplished this week. I hope that you enjoyed your weekend and that you are looking forward to this week.

I would like your opinion on something. Tell me what you think about this story.

A boy and his parents were having dinner at a Chinese restaurant. They were laughing and enjoying the food and in general having a good time. Out of the blue, the mother tells the waiter that today is the boy’s birthday. The mother knew this Chinese restaurant would give the boy a free dessert on his birthday.

As it turns out, it was not the boy’s birthday. The boy’s mother had lied just to get the boy a free dessert. The boy smiled as he enjoyed his free dessert, while the father had a look of confusion on his face. The father wondered why the mother would lie to get the boy a free dessert. After all, the father was paying for dinner anyway and the dessert would have only added $4 or so to the total bill.

You could say that getting the boy dessert seemed like a nice gesture on the mother’s part. After all, the boy really enjoyed the dessert. On the other hand, it would have been just as nice of a gesture if the dessert had been paid for, right?

So, what do you think? Was it wrong of the mother to lie or was the lie justified because the boy benefited by getting dessert?

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day!

Love,

Dad
