My Letters To My Son

Letters

Hi Son

November 15, 2021 By Dad

Hi Son,

Well, here we are at the start of another great week! I already know that you are ready for what’s ahead.

I’m feeling energized after my workout and ready for the day. It’s easy to feel ready for the day when you take care of your mental, physical, and spiritual health.

It’s also easy to not take care of your mental, physical, and spiritual health. That is evident in the number of people who are out of shape, fatigued, and unhappy.

If we stop and think about it, your mental, physical, and spiritual health are all connected, right? For instance, if I indulge in too much wine, I will typically not feel vibrant when I wake up the next day. If the next day happens to be a workout day for me, then the workout will typically be tougher. When the workout is tougher, it requires more willpower to complete….this also can have you not look forward to the next workout. From there, it’s easy to rationalize skipping a workout and telling yourself, “Missing one workout won’t hurt.”.

While it may be true that missing one workout might not hurt, you don’t want that one occurrence to turn into a habit. The same is true with regard to diet. Having a slice of chocolate cake is not a bad thing. Personally, I love chocolate! The issue arises when eating chocolate cake becomes a habit.

In general, bad habits can be difficult to break. One reason is that there is something appealing about the bad habit even if the long-term result is negative. For instance, eating chocolate cake and junk food every day (yes, I have done that) and not eating is not good for you. However, the please we get from indulging in junk food is definitely appealing.

Something else to keep in mind is that if you are not eating right, exercising can become more difficult. Why? Simple, because our bodies need the right type of fuel for us to perform at our best.

So, how could diet and exercise affect our mental health? There are many factors involved, for sure. Well, as our physical health becomes affected by an unhealthy lifestyle, our mental health will suffer as well. It is not a simple thing to maintain a positive mental attitude when you don’t feel well, or your health is failing.

Let’s revisit this topic at a later date.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
