My Letters To My Son

Howdy Son

Howdy Son,

Here we are at the start of yet another amazing day at the beginning of another great week!

I’d like to continue our chat about friendship from the previous week.

Last week we discussed a couple of differences between acquaintances and friends. The most stand out difference is that a friend is someone you can depend on.

Someone who will be a long-term friend will be someone who you share a belief system with. For example, I believe that honesty is the best policy. For me, I will not make friends with people who do not share this belief. Why? With regards to friendships, there must be trust. It is difficult or impossible to trust a person who is not honest. Trust forms the foundation of any great relationship.

Being in a friendship with someone who is untrustworthy is like taking a long road trip in a car at that you already know ahead of time could break down at any time. If you could take a long road trip in a car that you know is dependable and will get you there or one that could break down at any time, which would you choose?

Building a lasting friendship, like any other relationship, takes time, effort, patience, and lots of love.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
