My Letters To My Son

Dad

Top Of The Morning To You Son

September 5, 2022 By Dad

Top Of The Morning To You Son,

How’s it going there today? I’ve already planned on having an amazing day, how about you?

I hope that your summer has been great. Fall is just a few weeks away and daylight savings time ends on November 6.

Although I’ve never been fond of the end of daylight savings time, I do embrace it and make the best of it. Why? Fighting against those things that you cannot change can prove to be an exercise in futility. I don’t understand how dreading the end of daylight savings time can allow us to embrace and even enjoy standard time.

Does it seem logical to you to focus on those things you can change rather than focus on the things you can’t change? For instance, deciding to paddle a canoe upstream will certainly make it more challenging to move forward. Paddling a canoe downstream, however, is essentially going with the flow rather than fighting against the current. We can’t change which way the river flows, but we can decide to point our canoe downstream.

So, I guess we could summarize by saying that when we are faced with things we cannot change, such as the end of daylight savings time, we must adapt. We should find ways to embrace the changes and challenges that are a natural part of life. I remember a portion of a quote I will paraphrase that states, “Challenges in life are inevitable, defeat is optional.”. So often, we can avoid so much frustration and defeat by focusing on what we can change rather than what we cannot change.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
