My Letters To My Son

Dad

Hi Son

June 22, 2026 By Dad

Hi Son,

Well, as usual, another amazing week awaits us!

How are things there? I hope that all is well with you and yours. Things are groovy here and seem to get groovier by the day! I praise God for that. If I remember correctly, you and I were going to have a chat about God. I’m looking forward to that.

In the past, we were discussing the following quote:

“Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” – Suzy Kassem

We looked into how doubt can derail our progress towards achieving our goals and dreams.

Here are some other examples of how doubt entered my mind. I had a twinge on the right side of my lower back. Most likely I incorrectly lifted something heavy in a way I shouldn’t have. Well, yesterday was my run day and I have to admit that I didn’t look forward to completing a run with my back bothering me! Do you know what happened? I got on the treadmill and actually enjoyed the run and suffered no great lower-back pain.

Today, I felt the twinge in my lower back again and thought that it would be unpleasant when I did a plank or pushups. Well, do you know what happened? It was unpleasant during the plank, and I mean really unpleasant. Ouch!

Doubt entered my mind before I ran yesterday and when I weight trained today. It entered my mind only because I didn’t want my lower back to feel any worse. Fortunately, I was able to complete the workouts that I had planned.

There will be times when we doubt and it keeps us from moving forward. I think most everyone has doubts about the process or outcome of something. If we let it doubt will “let us off the hook” and allow us to return to our comfort zone. In these cases, we could easily take the short-term pleasure of defaulting to our comfort zone.

On the flip side of the short-term pleasure of the comfort zone is another decision. That decision is to take advantage of the long-term benefits of not defaulting to our comfort zone. The long-term decision takes into account the long-term benefits we will receive as a result of exercising our discipline, focus, and resilience.

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
