My Letters To My Son

Dad

Happy Magnificent Monday Son

September 7, 2026 By Dad

Happy Magnificent Monday Son,

I trust it all is well with you and that you are having an absolutely phenomenal day!

I had a great workout this morning even though I felt a little bit doubtful about it going so smoothly. Over the weekend we were throwing out old stuff that was no longer needed and deciding which types of things to be donated. This was like spring cleaning except just not in spring. I can’t tell you how liberating it was to let go of so many things that we’re not serving a purpose in our lives.

I have to admit something that you may not know about me. I’ve accumulated far too many things over the years and didn’t take the necessary time to purge periodically as I should (I’ll bet you can’t guess how many men’s neckties your Dad has). I’m getting better about that, but this last purge involved the use of an entire dumpster. Now I admit that there was more than one- or two-year’s worth of stuff in that dumpster, more like 40- or 50-year’s worth of stuff in the dumpster. Of course, that wasn’t just my accumulation, but other family members as well.

Initially I felt a little strange about the process, but as time went on and I began pitching more and more things, I realized that it felt very liberating physically and mentally as well. It’s pretty easy for us to have a mental or emotional attachment to things, some of which we may have tremendous sentimental value. Now there were some things that were of sentimental value, such as things of your Grandmother’s that I will keep forever. There were also things of value that I, of course, will not throw away, but I’ll end up selling them at some point in time or using them.

I have this feeling, even without us discussing it, that you don’t have the same accumulation tendencies as your Dad and that’s a good thing!

Well, that’s all for now!

Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Love,

Dad
