Great Morning Son,
I hope that your day is going well and that you are looking forward to a great week!
In a previous discussion, we ended with the question, “What do you think makes someone unreasonable?”
There are any number of reasons why a person would behave unreasonably. Having a skewed perception based upon a belief system is one reason. What does that mean? Well, if someone believes something is true, then that belief shapes their perception of reality.
Here’s an example that might seem a bit extreme but illustrates the point. A person who wears a blindfold at all times can believe that the sun never shines and that it is always dark outside. I know what you are thinking, “why in the world would anyone do that?”. As I said before, this is an extreme example. Although the example may seem extreme, at some point in time we have all blindfolded ourselves to skew our reality.
At times, we intentionally blindfold ourselves to reality. Say, for instance, that a person has told a lie about something. When asked for the truth, some people would rather defend the lie than tell the truth. Why is that? Well, no one likes to be caught in a lie and, interestingly enough, people who lie don’t like to be called liars. Also, no one likes to have their integrity called into question, even though they know for a fact that they are not a person of integrity.
Let’s pick up on this topic at a later date.
Well, that’s all for now!
Have an amazing day and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!
Love,
Dad
